Season's Greetings!

Everyone loves a laugh (well nearly everyone), right? Well to bring some seasonal cheer to your day here's a clip from one of my favourite stand up comedians: Lee Mack. Enjoy!

Good News Everyone...

I've read this week about two points of light on the horizon of an otherwise gloomy landscape of overpopulated continents and habitat destruction. It's so refreshing to read some good news on this subject for a change:

* Although still critically endangered due to poaching and loss of habitat (total world population is estimated at 786), the Mountain Gorilla population in Africa’s Virunga Massif has increased by an amazing 26.3% in just seven years. Read more here, here and here.

He’s happy about it!

* The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in China has reached its goal of successfully breeding 300 bears in captivity and can now begin an ambitious programme to reintroduce them into the wild. Read more here.

Share in the comments if you've heard any good wildlife news lately!

Winter Hare

I think these colourful cards by Jane Tomlinson are gorgeous:
Winter Hare by Jane Tomlinson
Her vivid watercolours feature the natural world, local landscapes and global travels but it's her paintings based on Darwin and Wallace’s work and just life on this planet in general that particularly speak to me. I love this painting:

Life on Planet Three by Jane Tomlinson
Take a look at more of Jane's work here.

Waterlily

The wildlife garden of someone I know. The pond isn’t this big but artistic license is a good thing :)

Decisions...

I’ll try to make some time next to get some colour on this:

Fishing

I have piles of sketches stuck at this stage, where I’ve decided the content but just haven’t finished. I think it's because of the vast number of colour combinations and possibilities; it seems a shame to limit it to one.

Autumn Sunshine

Some of the blogs I read are written by fantastic, committed people who, although hard to believe now, claim they used to be unorganised procrastinators. Being a bit of an unorganised procrastinator myself, who'd like to actually do some of the things I've been dreaming about for a while, this may be just what I need: a place to show my work, ask advice and all the other brilliant things you can do with a blog. So, to dip my toe in the water and get the ball rolling, a picture I painted a while back of the amazing array of colours you get at this frosty time of year:
