I found out about Ocean 2012 through this stunning animation from Uli Henrik Streckenbach - have a look!

Around the World in Fruit & Veg

A new and improved version of this! I really like the way the polar regions worked out in the different shade of wood.

They're available as linen place mats here!

A new background.

Back in March, I submitted a design for the Joseph Joseph brief. You can see the winning designs here and, although mine isn't among them, I was happy with it. It was the first time I'd used vector graphics and really enjoyed learning on this design but was never satisfied with the blue background (put in at the last minute as a bit of a rush job) so I've updated it to something more me:

A la Carte on Wood.
I think it makes the fruit and veg colours stand out much better and looks more in context laid out on the chopping board, although it's a weird old mix of photo and vector; still, I like it! Especially the new shadows, which you can see better in the details below. It's a happy coincidence that the crack in the board ended up pretty much on the date line :)

I'm sure I can use it for something kitchen related. I was thinking a calendar or placemats; anyone got any other ideas?

The book of Enzo.

I've just finished this book:

It's one of the best I've ever read in which Enzo, a canine philosopher, examines and recounts his life's experiences on the eve of his death. Anyone who loves animals and thinking about the larger picture should try this book but, whatever you do, don't read the end in public...

A fitting reminder, especially today, of all the beautiful beings we coexist with on our planet!

All Creatures Great and Small, by Julia Cairns.

Do something to help your fellow earthlings on this Earth Day! I think I'll donate to Fauna & Flora International, a wide-reaching charity working to conserve threatened species and ecosystems around the globe.

Joseph Joseph!

I've been busy the last week or so putting together my entry for the Joseph Joseph worktop saver competition.

I had lots of ideas and was planning on doing all six entries but I've never used vector graphics before and had to learn the program as I was designing this one. Not the best time for it but I'm pretty good at it now! Anyway, I'm pleased with the result, even if it was all lonely in the email, and I love using the vectors!
